Dr. Ali Jahami

 

Ali Jahami, BEng, ME, Ph.D., currently holds the position of Assistant Professor at the University of Balamand (UOB) since September 2023. Prior to this, he served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Lebanese American University (LAU) starting in January 2023. Ali began his academic journey in 2016 as a Graduate Teaching/Research Assistant at Beirut Arab University (BAU), eventually advancing to the role of Research Associate, which he held until 2020. Throughout his academic career, he has contributed his expertise as a Research/Teaching professional at BAU and as a Part-time Lecturer at Al Maaref University and the Islamic University in Lebanon, all until 2023. Ali’s research interests encompass a wide range of topics, including concrete structures, blast and impact loads, finite element modeling, structural rehabilitation and strengthening, FRP composites, and sustainable construction materials. Furthermore, Ali plays a pivotal role in editorial leadership, serving as the Editor-in-Chief of “Steps for Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering,” and as the Chairman of the Scientific Board at Scientific Steps International Publishing Services. He is also an active reviewer for several Scopus-ranked journals. With 766 citations and an H-index of 18 on Google Scholar, and 414 citations with an H-index of 15 on SCOPUS, he is acknowledged as one of Lebanon’s most dynamic and influential young researchers in his field. In addition to his academic pursuits, Ali has practical experience as a Structural Engineer since 2015 and served as a BIM Specialist from 2021 to 2022, applying his expertise in the analysis, design, and implementation of various concrete and steel structures, as well as the application of cutting-edge BIM technology across diverse projects.

Keynote Speakers

Biography

Dr. Rana Khallaf is a Visiting Associate Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at AUS. Prior to joining AUS, she was an Associate Professor at Future University in Egypt where she taught in the Structural Engineering and Construction Management department. She obtained her PhD from Purdue University in Civil Engineering (Focus: Construction Engineering and Management) and was appointed there as a Lecturer after her graduation.  Dr. Rana has an experience of over 14 years in consulting, teaching, and research in the field of project management. She has taught at various universities such as the American University in Cairo and Cairo University and was an invited speaker at the University of Florida and Purdue University. Her passion lies at the intersection between engineering and entrepreneurship.  Dr. Rana was awarded a 2-year fund as a PI by the Science and Technology Development Fund in Egypt (STDF) to study the financial and value-for-money assessment of renewable energy PPPs in Egypt. She was also awarded a grant in 2023 by STDF through a joint Egypt-USAID project on the Commercialization of Technologies and establishing a Technology Transfer Office. She has previously worked as a consultant for startups in Egypt in the Proptech sector and was also a judge for startup competitions at the American University in Cairo. She also founded a network titled “Arabs in Academia” and hosted several online and offline events connecting Arab academics worldwide.

Dr. Lina A. Jaber

Assistant Professor, Beirut Arab University, Lebanon

Biography

Dr. Lina A. Jaber, an Assistant Professor specialized in Geotechnical Engineering at Beirut Arab University, brings a wealth of expertise and academic rigor to her field. Holding a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, along with a master’s and Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering.

Her scholarly endeavors are focused on dynamic soil-structure interaction, seismic responses of soil-pile-structure systems, posttensioning reinforcement for shoring systems, and the implications of deep excavations on urban structures. Dr. Jaber’s publications also delve into the intricacies of soil stabilization techniques utilizing diverse materials, offering invaluable insights into soil behavior, ground improvement methodologies, and structural integrity within civil engineering applications.

In addition to her research pursuits, Dr. Jaber is actively engaged in teaching a variety of courses, including Engineering Geology, Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Retaining Structures, Soil and Site Improvement and Disaster Engineering. Her dedication to education extends to mentoring a substantial number of postgraduate students, guiding them in their academic and research endeavors. In addition to her research and teaching roles, Dr. Jaber is a Member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Steps for Civil, Constructions, and Environmental Engineering.
